FIBROMYALGIA

Fibromyalgia is a condition characterized by widespread pain in different areas of the body.  It is a difficult condition to diagnose and it is common for patients to undergo many different tests that are all negative.  The diagnosis of fibromyalgia is usually a last resort when other conditions have been ruled out.  Other symptoms suffered by  fibromyalgia patients include fatigue, sleep disturbances, headaches, heightened sensitivity, numbness and tingling in hands and feet, and depression.

Treatment

Treatment of fibromyalgia includes functional soft tissue therapy (A.R.T.) to remove adhesions.  Joint manipulation to restore normal movement and function to the joints of the spine and will also activate neurological receptors in the joints to help control pain.

Nutritional counseling is very helpful for fibromyalgia patients.  Emphasis will be placed on an anti-inflammatory type of diet and appropriate supplementation.   It is common that fibromyalgia patients be co-managed with a rheumatologist.
